Congratulations!  You’ve mastered the basics of your instrument, or at least are ready to give what you know a go with others.  This is what it’s all about!

Now where to find those others…

The first place to look is in your community. Church, Synagogue, Little league team, school, work, etc.  If you are excited about it, “put it out there”.

Another way is to look in Craig’s list.  People are always posting stuff and sometimes you can find exactly what you’re looking for.  It does however host a lot of wanna-be’s and flakes so be choosy.

If you are in the Asheville Area I can recommend our ensemble program at Asheville Music School.

And once you have some material to share I would suggest looking for open mics.  These are casual jam sessions where anyone can play.  I’d suggest looking around, maybe in your local newspaper, to see what’s around.  Attend a few before bringing your axe.  It’s always a good idea to see what is expected and it’s also good to hear what is going on in your own town.  Unfortunately there are usually not jam sessions for kids but you can always host one at your house!  Maybe find others and do a Sunday porch jam!
